The Cowichan Valley Museum and Archives are actively seeking dedicated volunteers to join our dynamic team and contribute to the vital work of preserving and promoting our local history. With a focus on future growth and the implementation of a strategic expansion plan, we invite individuals with diverse skills and a passion for history to become involved.
Opportunities for Engagement
The Museum and Archives offers a variety of volunteer roles designed to leverage a wide range of talents and interests. We are currently seeking individuals to fill the following positions:
Operational and Advisory Roles:
- Business Advisor: We seek an experienced individual with a strong background in business management or organizational development to provide strategic counsel on operational best practices. The Business Advisor will guide the museum in navigating the evolving landscape of cultural institutions and ensure its long-term sustainability.
- Treasurer: A financially astute individual with experience in accounting, financial management, or a related field is needed to oversee the Museum and Archives’ finances. The Treasurer will manage budgets, ensure fiscal responsibility, advise on financial objectives, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Computer Skills Expert: A tech-savvy individual is sought to assist with the implementation and integration of new technologies. This role will involve managing digital assets, improving our online presence, and streamlining operations through the use of relevant software and hardware.
Engagement and Outreach Roles:
- Social Ambassador: An outgoing and personable individual with strong interpersonal skills is needed to cultivate relationships with visitors, members, and the wider community. The Social Ambassador will be responsible for fostering a welcoming environment, developing engaging social events, and expanding our network of supporters.
Hands-On and Project-Based Roles:
- Skilled Tradesperson: Individuals with expertise in carpentry, restoration, or other relevant trades are invited to contribute their skills to the maintenance and enhancement of the historic train station building and other museum projects. This hands-on role offers the opportunity to participate in creative projects that enhance the visitor experience.
General Membership:
- General Members: We welcome individuals who are passionate about local history and eager to learn more about their community's past to join our growing membership. General members contribute through their participation in events, programs, and the overall support of our mission.
